Black Rock Motor Resort Secures Funding To Accelerate $150m Development

February 26, 2025
  • Black Rock Motor Resort locks in funding agreement to complete $150 million development
  • Australia’s first ground-up motorsport precinct in 30 years boasts a luxury country club twist
  • 10 years in the making, Black Rock Motor Resort to open to residents, members and guests in 2026

Australia’s first greenfield motorsport facility in over 30 years has accelerated into the fast lane after securing funding from a Sydney-based credit partner for its $150 million luxury motorsport retreat. Unlike any motorsport precinct in Australia, Black Rock Motor Resort will combine the luxury of a private country club with world class motorsport experiences.

Almost 10 years in the making, Black Rock Motor Resort is nestled within 650 acres of breathtaking Australian bushland in the Lake Macquarie region, just 90 minutes north of Sydney. The exclusive venue will combine top-tier driving and training facilities paired with premium accommodation, fine dining, and rejuvenating wellness experiences.

Tony Palmer, CEO and Founder of Black Rock Motor Resort said:

“Securing the support of a highly credentialed capital firm is not just a vote of confidence for our plans, but also the progress we have made to date.
“Black Rock Motor Resort is an ambitious project, but our funding partner got the vision, understood the long-term potential and realised that what we were proposing wasn’t just another racetrack, but a lifestyle, a sanctuary for those who live and breathe exceptional high-performance and luxury experiences"

Taking over six years to gain the appropriate State and local planning approvals – while also relinquishing the site’s mining lease – ground was first broken at Black Rock Motor Resort in March of 2024. With the land cleared and prepared, the track was meticulously crafted into the undulating landscape throughout late 2024 and into 2025. The Resort’s first true lap was completed by Australian endurance racer and dual-Dakar winner Toby Price, in a Can-Am off-roader – setting a lap time of 3 minutes, 29 seconds.

Black Rock Motor Resort is a uniquely diversified development, offering a mix of motorsport, hospitality, real estate, lifestyle and supporting facilities unlike anything else in Australia. While similar high-end motorsport resorts exist in the US, Japan, and Europe, Black Rock sets itself apart from any existing facility locally and as a result has attracted strong interest from enthusiasts, real estate investors, and corporate partners even before its completion.

The precinct will be delivered in two stages, with Stage 1 set for completion in mid-2026 and Stage 2 in mid-2027. Upon completion, Black Rock Motor Resort will feature a Tilke-designed 5.4km FIA Grade 2 circuit, a handling centre with an integrated skid pan and go-kart track, an off-road arena, and a state-of-the-art simulator room. The resort will also include 64 luxury villas, a 40-room hotel, a 500-seat function centre, private storage, a gourmet café, a fine dining bistro, and premium onsite hospitality.

Standing on the site of the former Rhonda Colliery, an underground coal mine that operated from 1895 to the early 1970s, Black Rock Motor Resort takes its name from a miner’s diary entry celebrating the moment of “hitting the black rock”. This tribute to the site’s industrial heritage marks its transformation from coal mine to into a world-class motorsport and leisure retreat.
